THOUGHTS
Ps 39:4 "LORD, make me to know my end And what is the extent of my
days; Let me know how transient I am. [KJV says “ that I may know how
frail I am.”]
The psalmist here seems to be saying that there is something good about my
knowing my PLACE? It seems that a perception of our shortness
of life is a starting point.
One connection is found in Ps 90:12
So teach us to number our days, That we may present to You a heart of
wisdom.
So considering the shortness of LIFE... HOW SHOULD THIS MAN LIVE?
Jas 4:13-15 Come now, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will
go to such and such a city, and spend a year there and engage in business and
make a profit." 14 Yet you do not know what your life will be
like tomorrow. You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then
vanishes away. 15 Instead, you ought to say, "If the Lord
wills, we will live and also do this or that."
1Sam 15:17 Samuel said, "Is it not true, though you were
little in your own eyes, you were [made] the head of the tribes of Israel?
And the LORD anointed you king over Israel,
[Samuel is passing judgment on king Saul who has let pride overcome him!]
Prov 18:12 Before destruction the heart of man is haughty,
But humility [goes] before honor.
Luke 14:7-11 And He began speaking a parable to the invited
guests when He noticed how they had been picking out the places of honor at
the table, saying to them, 8 "When you are invited by someone to
a wedding feast, do not take the place of honor, for someone more distinguished
than you may have been invited by him, 9 and he who invited you both will
come and say to you, ‘Give your place to this man,’ and then in disgrace you proceed
to occupy the last place. 10 "But when you are invited, go and
recline at the last place, so that when the one who has invited you comes, he
may say to you, ‘Friend, move up higher’; then you will have honor in the sight
of all who are at the table with you. 11 "For everyone who exalts
himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."
Matt 18:4 "Whoever then humbles himself as this
child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
1Pet 5:5-6 You younger men, likewise, be subject to your
elders; and
all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, for GOD IS OPPOSED TO THE PROUD, BUT
GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE. 6 Therefore humble yourselves
under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time,
Ps 34:18 The LORD is near to the brokenhearted And saves
those who are crushed in spirit.
Ps 51:17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; A broken
and a contrite heart, O God, You will not despise.
My Prayer:
Lord teach us to know how frail we are. Help us to put our lives in
proper eternal perspective. Make us strangers to this world that we may
abide in your presence. Clothe us in humility as we consider your great
being. Show us your majesty and teach us to fall on our knees.
In the name of our precious Lord
Amen
